For its eleventh edition, the international sound art festival City Sonic directed by Transcultures, digital and sound cultures centre, in co-production with cultural centre le manège.mons and in partnership with the City of Mons gives importance to the sound emergences (Belgian and European young talents) with a itinerary of art installations in the city center of Mons (Salle Saint-Georges, the starting point on the Grand Place, Médiathèque, the site of the Arbalestriers, the site of the former slaughterhouse). Among the artists invited to the audio urban path: Daniel Palacios, Gauthier Keyaerts + Christian Frisson, Arnaud Eeckhout, Sonia Paço-Rocchia, Claire Payement, Marc Parazon, Mauro Vitturini, Isa Belle+Paradise Now…
In addition to this sound creations itinerary, the festival is punctuated with performances and singular events such as Sonic Garden Party with les Transatlantiques, 4 performances getting together audio artists and authors Belgian and Quebec (Martin Tétreault vs Sébastien Dicenaire, Werner Moron vs Erick D’Orion, Jean-Marc Desgent vs Gauthier Keyaerts, Hervé Bouchard vs Stephan Ink), in private gardens of rue des Compagnons on Sunday, September 8th from 3 to 6pm or Sonic Lab with small innovative musical forms of Jean-Paul Dessy + Jarek Frankowski (Musiques Nouvelles), Alexander Schubert (with Numediart), Alter Sessio, Laurent Mariusse in the Salle des Arbalestriers Sunday, September 15th at 7pm.
In the framework of the European project Park in Progress (a nomadic European project promoting mobility of interdisciplinary creators initiated by the European Pépinières for young artists) twenty European interdisciplinary artists working with sound dimension will be in residence on the site of the anciens Abattoirs to present Friday, September 6th at 20:30, at the opening of the festival, Night of the young European creation with a program of short creations resulting from residences Park in progress in Mons.
Dj Elephant Power, Sonia Paço-Rocchia, Rudy Romanowski will lead Sonic Kids workshops (introduction to new audio practices for young audience) on Wednesday, September 11th on the site of the Arbalestriers. Other City Sonic #11 novelties: in addition to Park in progress, urban surprise interventions with the bus from the cross-border project Nomade, animated by sound artists or Sonic Shop on the site of the Arbalestriers with its selection of publications on sound, production of independent record companies and a listening room. Sound in all its dimensions!
