O Superman (live)

In 1981, Laurie Anderson recorded the single O Superman (For Massenet) – 8 minutes of sensual spoken word via vocoder – which became an international success then included in her first Warner Bros album Big Science (1982) as well as in her masterpiece in the United States Part One to Four, In 1983, an eight hour live performance was subject to partial recording, in the United States. This video (archive videographies) documents a performance given in 1979 by Laurie Anderson at Cirque Divers in Liège where she sang exceptionally in French.

Laurie Anderson

Laurie Anderson, Pioneer of electronic music. Laurie Anderson is a performance artist. A graduate of Columbia in the 70’s in sculpture, she turned to the music for her first performance, which was a symphony of car horns. In the early 80s, she released the album Big Science, the single O Superman reach second place, and in the top in Britain.

In 2007, she received the Gish Prize, which annually recognizes an artist for her “amazing contribution to the beauty of the world, the pleasure of humanity and understanding of life.”

One of the major themes of her work is science and technology, she became the first and last artist to see herself in a residence at NASA between 2003 and 2005.
