Sonic Garden Party

Timo van Luijk – autodidact – improvising composer, visual arts and crafts (printmaking, photography, video).
Formed together with Geert Feytons the audio-visual collective Noise-Maker s Fifes in 1989. The group worked with selfmade instruments and fieldrecordings and got known for the creation of complex, surreal audio-visual live happenings which sometimes also included dance and sound installations. In 2006, after the death of Geert Feytons, the group continues as collective Onde, with Greg Jacobs and Marc Wroblewski (both from Noise-Maker s Fifes) focussing more on mere musical improvisation.
In the early 90 s van Luijk also started his more intimite solo project named Af Ursin . The work of Af Ursin is based on intuitive but also structured improvisations with mainly acoustic instruments and the studio as instrument resulting in free arrangements with a personal and poetic character. Since 2001 he publishes his own work and collaborations with like minded artists (Andrew Chalk, Christoph Heemann, Raymond Dijkstra, Kris Vanderstraeten, Frederik Croene, Limpe Fuchs, Al Margolis, Ditterich von Euler Donnnersperg, ) on his imprint La Scie Dorée.
Alongside his work in music, Van Luijk is active with printmaking, photography and video. His etchings and collages show traces of lyrical abstraction, surreal expressionism, visual poetry and have rarely been exhibited. In 2007 he founded (together with Greg Jacobs and Marc Wroblewski – Noise-Maker s Fifes, Onde) Metaphon, a concert organisation and record label specialising in releasing archive works of mainly Belgian electronic and experimental music composers. Metaphon produced luxury vinyl and CD editions by a.o. Baudouin Oosterlynck, Arsène Souffriau, Michael Ranta.
Van Luijk also curated concerts and small festivals in Brussels with a.o. David Behrman, Joan Labarbara, Remko Scha, Hans Reichel, Limpe Fuchs, AMM, Michael Ranta, Michel Deneuve, Richard Pinhas, Ditterich von Euler Donnersperg…
