Hémisphères

Hemispheres enables us to hear the thrilling sounds of enamel covering the inner wall of four ceramic pieces. When standing in the center of this sonic sculpture, a person can hear fine polyphony. The small cracks that are discerned on the lip of each orifice are testimonies of a moment in the life of the matter, reactivated by the presence of sound. As we approach the orifices by ear, we will share the intimacy of the trembling song which emanates from it.

Production: Julia Stehling, La Cambre ceramic workshop. Follow-up of the tech project: Raymond Delepierre (La Cambre / Arts Numériques). Within the framework of the program, Emergences Numerique et Sonore

Julia Stehling

It is through the body and the senses that Julia Stehling apprehends the world. In clay, there is something which is a bit like the epidermis that is similar to —an envelope. Constructing is a means of transcending oneself, of becoming exhaustively in contact with this clay matter, and saving the traces of the process of interaction and transformation as evidence of the action itself. Beyond chemistry and physics, there is the poetry of matter and sound.
