Chamber music (premiere)
An ambient and voice environment directed by Martyn Bates, co-founder and singer of the Eyeless in Gaza duo, about James Joyce’s poems, reconstituted for City Sonic, from two CDs released on Sub Rosa label (1994 and 1995) echoing the sober spirituality emanating from the St-Calixte Chapel (eleventh century).

Martyn Bates
Martyn Bates is an English singer, an author and a musician all at once! He formed the famous duo Eyeless In Gaza (several discs on Cherry Red label) in 1980 with Peter Becker.
He is keen on exploring new musical fields with cinematic atmospheres. The duo quickly emerged with legendary albums like Rust Red September and Back From the Rains.
Martyn Bates has also made several solo albums and multiple collaborations (with Deirdre from This Mortal Coil, with John Zorn Painkiller’s noisy jazz training or with Anne Clark the poetess). He has also participated in the creation of Derek Jarman’s films soundtrack The Garden and The Last of England.
