A sound walk in the connected city
The international festival City Sonic, dedicated to the diversity of sound arts, initiated by Transcultures and co-produced by the manège.mons, is part of Mons 2015, European Capital of Culture and celebrating its thirteenth edition.
Unlike previous editions, we chose to return to the very essence of the festival: 26 locations in the heart of the city that are unique to or iconic of Mons’ heritage have been selected as sites of sound-broadcasting-paths and sound installations. Thus the city is transformed into a huge hub connected to the audio world.
Four thematic itineraries consisting of fifty creations, imagined by seventy artists, highlight the relationship between contemporary sound creation and different disciplines and practices. These four itineraries start from St. George Hall (Grand Place): invented instruments, sound and digital video, audio architectures and visual art, and sonic pirates…
City Sonic @ Mons 2015 also offers performances, concerts, a Sonic Garden Party (in private gardens) Sonic Kids workshops, an improvised music street perambulation (One Moment Free Improv – in closing event), listening Shares or a Radio Sonic which documents these creative resonances.
Here participation is the first step to a listening process! 2015 good vibrations !
