Martyn Bates

Martyn Bates is an English singer, an author and a musician all at once! He formed the famous duo Eyeless In Gaza (several discs on Cherry Red label) in 1980 with Peter Becker.

He is keen on exploring new musical fields with cinematic atmospheres. The duo quickly emerged with legendary albums like Rust Red September and Back From the Rains.

Martyn Bates has also made several solo albums and multiple collaborations (with Deirdre from This Mortal Coil, with John Zorn Painkiller’s noisy jazz training or with Anne Clark the poetess). He has also participated in the creation of Derek Jarman’s films soundtrack The Garden and The Last of England.
