Le KEM : Karaoké Électro-Mécanique (Première belge)
Fruit of about ten years of design and fabrication of collective instruments for directed improvisation. The KEM is a set of musical instruments, electronics, and mechanics in network to make rhythms, melodies, sampling, acoustic sounds, all fixed on the same tempo, the same range, and being integrated into mixing. All is conceived here to improvise freely, to reintroduce the collective game in electronic music, which is too often individual. That implies that the players listen to one another, to build a music together…a living room of production and sound tasting. The ensemble is presented thus as a convivial bar; a bar with sounds in which the public is invited to produce its own cocktails. A dozen house made modules made from a base of ladders/stools, cages of birds, pots and pans, electronic truffles of all kinds, that serve as ingredients. The free handling of the buttons makes it possible for the public to feed the musical creation by setting off ‘electro’ sounds and/or real sounds, under the attentive eye of Al1 and Ant1, waiters of this original and unique place. They guide the public in musical explorations from beginning to its highest moments. Succulent musical consumption to be produced by oneself !
