Composition for 15 residents of the world (creation)

On the occasion of the festival City Sonic #16, Transcultures and the European Pepinieres de Creation gave Natalia de Mello a creative residency, at the ‘Center Placet’, which addresses foreigners – students and non-students-, to provide them with activities and services to help their integration into the host society, throughout their stay.

This work is an attempt to create the hit song of Autumn, situated at this location of internationalist hospitality that is Placet, based on a questionnaire administered to fifteen people. Their answers were used to create as many multicultural sound loops, broadcast by mini sound speakers placed on the ground and supported by a dance step video, captured during an evening organized by the artist at Placet.

Sound editing: Patrick Codenys.
Production: Transcultures, European pepinieres of creation in partnership with the Centre Placet.

Biography

Inseparable from fortunate encounters and collaborations, Natalia de Mello‘s work has been guided since 2000 by the dual concern of relation to space and relationship to others. Her taste for collaborations and the desire to transgress the limited boundaries of visual arts led her to engage in the world of performing arts and to participate or initiate shows, performances that will become places of multimedia experimentation and hybridization between artistic practices and digital technologies. Her reflections concern the relationship between science and art, between the human and the machine, between domesticity and domestication. To experiment, to explore, to question and to find what one was not looking for, is the ‘modus operandi’ of her research, which reflects upon our ‘being in the world’.
