Interazione con le onde (creation)
By treating ceramics as a living organism, Giovanni Fortenio focused on the sounds that it can produce, and the link that this aspect could have, with the shape of the object. Ceramics shape the sound but can also take a form that welcomes it, that accompanies it, and gives it substance with infinite possibilities. It is in the discovery of this unusual, invisible and surprising aspect of the clay (of which, the poet Octavio Paz writes, “the petals give birth to the smiling human flower”) that this sculptor of vibration invites the visitor. Two types of ceramic pieces producing or evoking each sound flux are exhibited here: Phonos-megaphono – a work on the interaction between the ‘sound of matter’ and the voice, and Phonographies – imaginary images, interactions between waves, the air and water.
Production: Giovanni Fortenio with the support of Transcultures.
Biography
Architect and designer of Sardinian origin, Giovanni Fortenio began his career as a ceramist on the occasion of a trip to Barcelona in 2012, where he used a potter’s wheel, for the first time. Since then, he has been looking for a language that is both plastic and organic. He sees creation as the transformation of thought into matter, to make it perceptible to others. Guided by an open imagination and an aesthetic that goes to the essence of jests, the hands sculpt the clay in the furrows and play within limits imposed by the matriarchial medium.
